Pierre Schwerzmann Trente Vingt-quatre retrace de grands carrés dans de petits carrés. Des lignes et lignes, des courbes suivant des losanges, des aplats rectangulaires. Des points sur des grilles. La répétition, l’espace d’un nouveau motif, au crayon gris ou crayon de couleur. Un damier gris et blanc. La forme se crée au rythme des pages et d’une recherche en cours. Phase préparatoire à d’autres travaux de grands formats, et travail en soi. Alignement des formes: phase de recherche retranscrite et publiée par les éditions Boabooks en 2019.
Pierre Schwerzmann a créé une trentaine de couvertures uniques. La couverture transpose la grille millimétrée que l’on aperçoit à l’intérieur. Le volume de ce livre agence un protocole chronologique et cinématographique pour la réalisation de cet ouvrage.
La forme crée l’espace, la ligne; creuse la surface, la retranscription d’un carnet de recherche, de croquis. Les carrés liés au papier millimétré, agrandis pour la publication illustrent cette ritualisation de la recherche dans la pratique picturale de Pierre Schwerzmann. Ces dessins au format timbre-poste conduisent le lecteur de la conclusion du livre, un essai sur toile des tableaux (30 × 24 cm).
Le livre rend visible le rythme et l’évolution chronologique de la pensée et des systèmes de l'artiste. Son titre fait écho aux proportions et au format de l’édition publiée Pierre Schwerzmann – 2013.
Cette accumulation des pages, donne un objet à feuilleter, à voir, à observer comme le résultat d’une partie de l’œuvre de Pierre Schwerzmann, un objet graphique fait de lignes et de sens.
Pierre Schwerzmann is a Swiss artist, based in Nyon, on the shores of Lac Léman. His parallel career as a teacher has fed into a reflection, or process of questioning, on how to express, as well as choosing modes of expression - including in his collaborations with Boabooks.
For this work, we chose to present sketches of works and research-in-progress.
Schwerzmann has many preparatory stages for the conception of the large-format paintings which characterise his work. The different phases of research and experimentation, and the repeated rituals of sketched drawings on graph paper - which have been sensitively enlarged for this book - propose to the reader a new, immersive perspective on one aspect of the process of painting. These postage-stamp format drawings lead the reader to a second part of the book, a test on a canvas of a small painting (30 × 24 cm).
Above everything, the book makes visible the rhythm and chronological evolution of the artist's thinking and experimental systems. The title of the book also hints of its own proportions, as well as the format of the edition which Boabooks published with Pierre Schwerzmann in 2013.
