Susanne Bürner est une artiste berlinoise qui explore les conditions psychologiques de l’espace et la relation du spectateur à celui-ci. Au cœur de son travail se trouve la représentation de la présence et de l’absence dans des images photographiques, des vidéos, des photographies et des livres d’artiste. Ses images tentent de représenter ce qui est difficile à saisir par l’image : les atmosphères, les projections, la reconstruction des souvenirs, la maîtrise de l’espace.
Mon travail explore nos corps et ce qui nous entoure, à savoir l’espace (architectural) et la nature, principalement à travers des images photographiques. J’aime jouer avec leurs impacts et leurs manipulations, les rendant finalement visibles. Par exemple, certaines photographies présentent des effets de trompe-l’œil qui se révèlent comme tels lorsqu’on les observe de plus près. Mes œuvres jouent avec la vérité et l’illusion, la présence et l’absence ; elles font référence au hors-champ, au monde extérieur à l’image.
Le film et la photographie se prêtent particulièrement bien à l’exploration de l’écart entre l’apparence et la réalité, car ils sont considérés comme des moyens de preuve fortement dépendants de la technologie et du matériel. À un autre niveau, j’explore le champ des sensations ou émotions intimes et le public dans mes affiches textuelles. Mes œuvres jouent avec différentes perspectives et soulèvent des questions sur les systèmes de perceptions et sociaux dans lesquels nous évoluons.
Je souhaite élargir le cadre de notre perception, en le détachant d’une vision hiérarchique, pour inclure les émotions marginalisées, les êtres vivants et les choses porteuses de possibilités alternatives. Je m’intéresse à la création d’images qui traduisent la fragilité de l’identité humaine et notre quête d’orientation dans toute sa complexité. Susanne Bürner
Susanne Bürner is a Berlin-based artist who explores the psychological conditions of space and the viewer's relationship to it. At the heart of her work lies the representation of presence and absence in photographic images, videos, photographs, and artist's books. Her images attempt to represent what is difficult to capture visually: atmospheres, projections, the reconstruction of memories, and the mastery of space.
My work explores our bodies and our surroundings—namely, (architectural) space and nature—primarily through photographic images. I enjoy playing with their impact and manipulation, ultimately making them visible. For example, some photographs present trompe-l'œil effects that reveal themselves as such upon closer inspection. My works play with truth and illusion, presence and absence; they reference what lies beyond the frame, the world outside the image.
Film and photography lend themselves particularly well to exploring the gap between appearance and reality, as they are considered forms of evidence heavily dependent on technology and equipment. On another level, I explore the realm of intimate sensations or emotions and the audience in my text-based posters. My works play with different perspectives and raise questions about the systems of perception and society in which we live.
I aim to broaden the framework of our perception, moving away from a hierarchical view to include marginalized emotions, living beings, and things that carry alternative possibilities.
