«What is a ternary rhythm? Unlike binary rhythm, which divides each beat into two, ternary rhythm divides it into three, creating a different rhythmic feel. This often manifests as a steady stream of ternary eighth notes, producing a sense of fluidity and swing. We have explored three fundamental ternary rhythms to help you understand and practice this rhythmic division. 12/8: a rhythm where each beat is divided into three eighth notes. Shuffle: this bouncy rhythm is created by omitting the second eighth note of each beat. Jazz (or *chabada*): a sophisticated rhythm combining accents, hi-hat closures, and cymbal work. As with any skill, regular practice is key.»
Antoine Maret (b. 1973) lives and breathes music and is an avid dancer. His visual and sculptural work engages with the body and space, as well as with circulation and the movement of fluids.
Sound plays an integral role—one can actually play with these works—and it structures the experience much like punctuation in writing, establishing a breath and a ternary rhythm. His field of experimentation involves varying the framing of a subject through visual and auditory repetition. His motifs merge with their formats and supports.
The materials he works with always interact with a variable chosen by the artist; for instance, humidity levels might cause rust on sheet metal while simultaneously expanding paper fibers. His works are living organisms.
Visual and auditory repetitions overlap, mirroring the way sound travels through the air as one discovers the artist’s work. Antoine Maret produced the work *A3+* for Boabooks; its proportions vary from one space to another (versions 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4).

« Qu’est-ce qu’un rythme ternaire ? Contrairement au rythme binaire, qui divise chaque temps en deux, le rythme ternaire le divise en trois, créant une sensation rythmique différente. Cela se manifeste souvent par une régularité de croches ternaires, donnant une sensation de fluidité et de balancement. Nous avons exploré trois rythmes ternaires fondamentaux pour vous aider à comprendre et à pratiquer cette division rythmique. Le 12/8 : un rythme où chaque temps est divisé en trois croches. Le shuffle : ce rythme sautillant est créé en supprimant la deuxième croche de chaque temps. Le Jazz (ou chabada) : un rythme sophistiqué combinant des accents, des fermetures de charleston et l’utilisation de la cymbale. Comme pour tout apprentissage, la pratique régulière est la clé.»
Antoine Maret (1973) vit la musique au quotidien, il danse assidûment. Son travail plastique et sculptural invoque un rapport au corps, à l’espace mais aussi à la circulation et les mouvements des fluides.
Le son est partie prenante (on joue avec ces œuvres) et il hiérarchise telle la ponctuation pour l’écriture, une respiration, un rythme, ternaire. Son champ d’expérimentation convoque des variations de cadrage d’un sujet en répétition, visuel et sonore. Ses motifs se confondent avec leurs formats et leurs supports.
Les matériaux travaillés entretiennent toujours une relation avec une variable choisie par l’artiste, par exemple : le taux d’humidité provoque la rouille sur la tôle, mais aussi une extension des fibres du papier. Ses œuvres sont des organismes vivants.
Les répétitions visuelle et sonore se superposent comme les déplacements du son dans l’air durant la découverte du travail plastique de l’artiste.
