Le grand avantage des corn flakes sur la tartine, c’est la boîte.
Outre ses fonctions très utiles de paravent ou de bouclier au petit déjeuner face à une fratrie belliqueuse, celle-ci est en effet le premier objet de lecture de tout être humain né dans un pays dit développé. Des textes fort bizarres sont ainsi lus chaque jour en boucle, au rythme saccadé de la mastication, par des millions d’individus à partir de 4 ans, et ceci tant qu’ils ont des dents. Cette littérature corn flakes débouchera plus tard, pour certains, sur la découverte d’une collection devenue le fleuron de l’édition française et le signe extérieur de richesse intellectuelle.
L’édition d’une boîte de Smacks aux couleurs de la NRF est une sorte de raccourci socio-culturel d’une pratique aussi universelle qu’hétérogène: la lecture.

The great advantage of cornflakes on bread and butter is the box. Besides its very useful functions – as a screen or a shield at breakfast if you have to look at your contentious brothers and sisters opposite – it is, indeed, the first readable object for each and every human being born in a so-called developed country. In this way, the extremely bizarre texts are read daily, like narrative loops in the clipped rhythm of mastication, resounding from millions of individuals older than four insofar they have teeth. This cornflake literature will, for certain people, later lead to the discovery of a collection that has become the gemstone of a French edition and the outward insignia of intellectual richness. The edition of a box of Smacks in the colors of the NRF (The New French Review) is a sort of sociocultural résumé of a practice that is as universal as it is heterogenous: reading.
